Soap Box Derby Racing Helmet, 1935-1945
01
Artifact Overview
The first soap box derby race was held in Dayton, Ohio, in 1934. Over the years, soap box derby cars became more elaborate, as did the safety gear used by participants. This steel helmet promoted Chevrolet's all-steel "turret top" roofs, introduced on its cars for 1936. Chevrolet sponsored the national All-American Soap Box Derby from 1934 to 1972.
