Large Cotton Threads Rolled into Large Cans before Entering the Doubling Machine, circa 1935
- Self-Propelled Cotton Picker, 1950 - This is the first commercially successful self-propelled cotton picker. The inventor, John Rust, worked for decades to develop a machine that would end the back-breaking labor of picking cotton that he experienced in his youth. The machine reduced the labor required to pick cotton by 80%, contributing to the Great Migration from the rural south to northern cities in the 1950s.

- Basket for Harvesting Cotton, 1870-1930 - Harvesting cotton in the South before and after the Civil War required workers to go into the field and pick the fibers from the plant. Men, women and children spent hours bent over removing the raw cotton and placing it into baskets similar to this oak-splint one. The content of the fully loaded basket was then taken to be weighed and processed.
