Artifact Overview

In early 1909, members of the New York Aeronautical Society ordered a flying machine from aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss. The first airplane sold commercially in the United States, the Golden Flyer would prove to be the lightest, fastest American aircraft yet built. Curtiss set a new endurance record in the Flyer later that year, cementing his place among the nation's top aviators.
