"Pickle King" H. J. Heinz was one of the first to provide exemplary amenities for his employees. These supported a strong company culture and the factory -- deemed a "model factory" -- became an example for other industries. One feature was the auditorium, believed to be the first in the country built exclusively for employees. Workers attended concerts, dances, and stage productions, including the annual Christmas play.
