Sensory-Friendly Saturday is an event designed for guests on the autism spectrum and with other sensory processing disorders. For this event, a variety of accommodations, activities and more have been put into place to create an inclusive, welcoming and safe space for our guests. Prior to this event, staff members of The Henry Ford participated in Michigan Autism Safety Training (MAST) provided by the Autism Alliance of Michigan to better understand the characteristics of autism and how to recognize and communicate with someone with autism.

The theme for Sensory-Friendly Saturday will focus on The Science Behind Pixar, the interactive exhibition showcasing the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts used by the artists and computer scientists who help bring Pixar’s award-winning films to the big screen.

  • Two time slots (9:30 and 10:00 am) are set aside to accommodate our Sensory-Friendly Saturday guests. The lights will be turned up throughout exhibit, including in the exhibit's introductory theater.
  • The Saturday screening of the Pixar film, Wall-E at the Giant Screen Experience is exclusively sensory-friendly. For this screening, the lights in the theater will be turned up and the sound will be turned down.
Contact the Call Center at 313-982-6001 for more information on our Sensory-Friendly Saturday experiences and ask about special discounts available for the day on museum admission or membership.
