1901 Haynes-Apperson Surrey

Summary

Elwood Haynes designed and Elmer and Edgar Apperson built their first automobile in Kokomo, Indiana, in 1894. They organized the Haynes-Apperson Company in 1898 and soon offered two-, four- and six-passenger models. The Appersons left in 1901, but Haynes continued manufacturing cars until 1924. Haynes widely -- though exaggeratingly -- advertised his company as the maker of "America's first car."
