Summary

The Automobile Club of Michigan published this map in 1942 to help guide motorists between Detroit and Gary, Indiana, and then from Gary to Chicago. Each of the three suggested routes offered its own advantages and attractions. The "U.S. 12 Route" most closely parallels modern Interstate 94, which became the principal route between Detroit and Chicago when completed in 1972.
