Summary

Starting in the 1910s, Ford Motor Company established a network of domestic assembly plants near major American cities. Ford's Chester, Pennsylvania, plant opened in 1928. It was built to take over production from a smaller facility in nearby Philadelphia. Chester's civilian production paused for military work during World War II, then resumed in 1945. Ford ended operations at the plant in 1961.
