Packard Motor Car Company, Detroit, Michigan, circa 1908

Summary

Albert Kahn designed Packard Motor Car Company's Detroit plant, which opened in 1903. Building #10, completed in 1905, included many of the features that became Kahn hallmarks. It was airy, filled with natural light, and constructed from reinforced concrete that allowed for an open floor plan and reduced fire risk. Packard's plant became a model for automobile factories that followed.
