Chef Fisher, Thomas Sato, and Chef Herman on a "Vagabonds" Camping Trip, Maryland, 1921

Summary

Calling themselves the Vagabonds, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs embarked on numerous camping trips between 1916 and 1924. Various support staff were needed to maintain camp, including Ford's personal chef, Thomas Sato. In 1921, the Vagabonds -- minus Burroughs who had passed earlier that year -- were joined by President Harding and his large entourage, necessitating the presence of more cooks.
