The Suwanee, a replica of a circa 1880 flat-bottomed steamboat, was constructed in Greenfield Village in 1929. The sternwheeler circled Suwanee Lagoon, dredged from a former channel of the Rouge River in 1937. Both the boat and the waterway were named for the Suwanee River made famous in Stephen Foster's song "Old Folks at Home."
