"Fly Piper Planes" Ashtray, circa 1965

Summary

This stamped aluminum ashtray promoted Piper airplanes. Piper Aircraft Corporation, named after William T. Piper who reorganized the bankrupt Taylor Brothers Aircraft Corporation in the 1930s, is best known for its "Cub" -- a lightweight, low-cost airplane. By the 1960s, the time this ashtray was produced, Piper had plants in Pennsylvania and Florida and controlled one-third of the lightplane market.
