1939 Mercury 8 Automobile Advertisement, "New Name, New Car, New Value"

Summary

Ford Motor Company introduced its Mercury line in the fall of 1938. The inaugural ad campaign heralded Mercury as "The car that dares to ask 'Why?'" That is, Why couldn't a big car be economical too? The Mercury was larger and more powerful than a contemporary Ford, but it still managed an impressive 20 miles per gallon in fuel economy.
