Anti-Proposition 14 Button, "No on 14," 1964
Add to SetSummary
In 1964, Californians voted on Proposition 14. This ballot initiative would repeal the state's 1963 Rumford Act, which banned discrimination in the sale or rental of housing and other housing transactions. Proponents of Prop 14--ignoring the existing discrimination--maintained that a person had the right to sell to anyone they chose. It passed overwhelmingly, but the U.S. Supreme Court later found the proposition unconstitutional.
