Summary

The Daytona Continental 2000-Kilometer was the longest race in the United States in 1965. Forty-three cars started the more than 1,240-mile race that would last nearly 12.5 hours. Carroll Shelby's Shelby American racing team dominated, taking five of the top six positions. The overall victory went to the team's #73 GT40 -- the first win by a GT40 anywhere.
