Summary

The first endurance race at Sebring International Raceway, built on the former Hendricks Army Airfield near Sebring, Florida, was a six-hour event held in 1950. Promoters doubled the duration in 1952, and the 12 Hours of Sebring became one of America's most important endurance competitions. In 1964, Briton Mike Parkes and Italian Umberto Maglioli took the checkered flag for Ferrari.
