On that day, Joshua Lionel Cowen and a colleague established / the Lionel Manufacturing Company, which was going to engage in / "the manufacture of electrical novelties." / One of the company's first products was a flatbed trailer and track / that Cowen sold to a local retailer as an animated display for / products in his store window. The next day, the retailer returned for / another display--his first customer had purchased the display instead / of the products. The retailer continued to order "displays," and other / stores followed. A marvel of its time, the 700E was a highly detailed die-cast / replica in perfect O scale. / The New York Central's J-Class 4-6-4 Hudson, with its classic steam locomotive styling, / was an ideal choice for the landmark Lionel model. It is said to have been the favorite of / Lionel founder Joshua Cowen. It was certainly the pride of the NYC fleet, pulling both / passenger cars and freight along its namesake river. / This dated, commemorative Keepsake Ornament is formed of die-cast metal. The / combination of finishes, including the 22 K.
