"Richmond, Fredricksburg and Potomac Railroad, Virginia -- Train Starting Out from Richmond," 1865

Summary

The Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad was chartered in 1834 and completed from Richmond, Virginia, to the Potomac River across from Washington, D.C., in 1842. The RF&P was a "bridge" line. Very little of the freight it hauled originated on its own line. Instead, the RF&P hauled goods between other railroads farther north and south.
