Summary

This prospector's cedar stake was used on a mining claim near a "Lake Edison" in Wyoming. This is the site where Thomas Edison allegedly conceived the idea for the incandescent lamp. The donor retrieved the stake several decades after Edison's encampment, noting that sand-laden winds blowing from the West had eroded only one side of the stake.

Summary

This tasimeter is a heat-measuring device, invented by Thomas Edison. On July 29, 1878, Edison travelled to Wyoming as part of the "Draper Expedition" to study a total solar eclipse along its path of totality. Mounting a tasimeter to a telescope, Edison conducted experiments to measure the energy levels of the sun's corona, amplified by the eclipse.
