Zaretta is a national education consultant and author. She is a self-described "former writing teacher turned equity freedom fighter.” Her passion for the intersectionality of equity and culturally responsive teaching led her to write the book Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain: Promoting Authentic Engagement and Rigor for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students. This publication has been utilized in many educational programs for pre-service teachers.

During this event, Hammond discussed her book, research and best practices that can be implemented in the classroom.
