As the spread of the novel coronavirus continues to impact our world, our nation and now our state, our organization has been evaluating and exploring all options regarding our venues and operations.

In alignment with the current statewide closures of schools attractions and ban on large public gatherings, all public venues of The Henry Ford will remain closed at least through Sunday, June 28, 2020. This includes Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, Greenfield Village, the Ford Rouge Factory Tour, the Giant Screen Experience and the Benson Ford Research Center. In addition, all private catered events are canceled during this time.

We are thrilled that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has lifted restrictions and is allowing museums and libraries to open on June 8; however, we still need time to open Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation and Greenfield Village safely for all. We are working very hard to accomplish that within the month. We are developing a comprehensive, multiphase approach to reopening. This strategy emphasizes, first and foremost, the safety of our guests and staff in compliance with federal, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state guidelines. This is no easy task to conceptualize and execute because of the ever-changing information regarding the pandemic and the unique complexities of The Henry Ford’s immersive environments and programs. When we closed our doors March 13, we were one month away from our annual opening of Greenfield Village for the season. In that month, there was much work to do and therefore much work still to be done.

Many of our signature events rely heavily on a large number of staff, outside participants and partners. Due to time constraints and the safety of all those who help in creating these large-scale events, we have made the difficult decision to cancel or postpone some of our signature programming for the 2020 season.

We encourage all of our guests to explore the institution’s venues, programs and collections by visiting thf.org during this public closure.

Initiative to Collect America’s Stories of Innovation and Resourcefulness During COVID-19 Pandemic

The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic that we are facing is an extraordinarily significant moment in our history. The Henry Ford has launched an initiative to document how we as a nation, as groups and as individuals are responding to this crisis, as well as documenting the challenges that we face. With our mission in mind, The Henry Ford’s collecting will focus on 3D objects, photographs and other related items that reflect not only the challenges that we face but how we are meeting those challenges through innovation, resourcefulness and ingenuity.

Examples of what we are looking to collect can be found here.

If you believe you have material that may be of interest, or have questions about the collecting initiative, please email us at covid19collecting@thehenryford.org. Please note that we would not be able to receive any items for our collections until our campus reopens. If we determine that your offer would be a good fit for our collections, we would ask that you hold onto it until we are able to make arrangements to have it delivered or dropped off to our site.

Thank you very much for thinking of The Henry Ford.
