As an independent nonprofit organization and beloved national treasure, The Henry Ford is facing unprecedented financial challenges because of the impact of our 16-week closure and reduced operations.
For over 90 years, The Henry Ford has worked to redefine what a museum can and should be. We strive to be a source of inspiration and a force for positive change. We use our unparalleled collections, stories and venues to encourage people of all ages to learn from the past to help shape a better future. Now, as we face one of the most challenging times in our history, we need your help in securing our future.
Between now and December 1, your donation will be doubled by longtime supporters of The Henry Ford. Now your contribution will have twice the impact thanks to this dollar-for-dollar match.
What are our unprecedented financial challenges?
Almost two-thirds of our operating budget is earned revenue — admission tickets, memberships, signature and private events, food and retail purchases — nearly all of which was eliminated with our forced closure.
While we have not had a deficit in decades, we are projecting a crippling shortfall of $10 to $20 million in our 2020 operating budget.
In April, we had to make the painful decision to furlough 80% of our workforce — 1,400 people.
We do not qualify for any federal or state government relief funding.
We do not receive public funding from any millage.
To safely reopen, we have had to invest significant resources to meet Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state standards to ensure the health and well-being of our guests, staff, students and volunteers.
We have been through difficult times before, persevered and emerged stronger. We will do so again — but we urgently need your help to address this current crisis and secure the future of The Henry Ford.
