Summary

In the 1920s, Henry Ford amassed a fleet of cargo carriers, ocean-going ships, barges, tugboats and canal boats to transport raw materials and finished product to and from his new River Rouge manufacturing complex. This photograph shows him aboard Henry Ford II. The Ford Motor Company ore freighter, also used for family cruises, was named after Ford's oldest grandson.
