Exploring America’s food stories is one of the most deeply rooted ways of understanding our nation’s history. From the sowing of seeds to the setting of tables, Fall Flavor Weekends in Greenfield Village showcases the abundance of the harvest through storytelling and demonstrations.

Crackling bread at the Mattox Family Home offers a unique perspective on the cultural, environmental and agricultural reality of the time. Cabbage pudding at the Daggett Farmhouse, tomato salad and dressing at the Ford Home, pink colored pancakes at the Giddings Family Home, and ham cooked in beer at the Edison Homestead are more of the timeless treats that could just inspire new food traditions in your home.

Visit with farmers as they plow and thresh powered by horses and, later, steam. Amble through the apple orchard, then shop the fall Farmers Market on Saturdays to connect with today’s local farmers, vendors and craft makers. Find out how to re-create historic recipes from simple, freshly harvested ingredients, and savor authentically American meals at A Taste of History® Restaurant.

Don’t forget to visit the Village Store for a complimentary tasting of Greenfield Village’s specialty foods, like Hobo Bread®, a sweet nut bread inspired by loaves baked in cans during the Great Depression.

For two special weekends, take in a slice of your own living heritage — our American foodways.

Your experience includes

  • Traditional Fall Cooking Demonstrations
  • Fall Farmers Market (Saturday 9:30am-3pm)
  • Expert Talks from Historians, Farmers and Suppliers
