Knowing about food is one of the most deeply rooted ways of understanding American history. In Greenfield Village, we share countless food stories, from the sowing of seeds to the setting of tables. During Fall Flavor Weekends, learn to make seasonal recipes from simple, freshly harvested ingredients prepared in the kitchens of our historic homes and farms. Shop the fall Farmers Market to connect with local farmers, vendors and craft makers. Savor authentically American meals at A Taste of History® Restaurant, which serves seasonal, locally sourced meals inspired by the stories of Daggett Farmhouse, Firestone Farm, Sarah Jordan’s Boarding House and Luther Burbank’s famous potato.

Today’s farm-to-table movement is as vital now as it was 300 years ago, and Fall Flavor Weekends showcase the abundance of the harvest through stories and demonstrations. Fried ham with red eye gravy at the Mattox Family Home offers a unique perspective on the cultural, environmental and agricultural reality of the time. Red cabbage dressed the Dutch way at the Daggett Farmhouse, ribbon cake at Firestone Farm, Irish stew at the Ford Home, orange cakes at the Giddings Family Home, baked scallops and mushrooms at Susquehanna Plantation, carrot fritters at McGuffey Birthplace and ginger gems at the Edison Homestead are more of the timeless treats that may inspire new food traditions in your home.

Pop into the Village Store for a complimentary tasting of Greenfield Village’s specialty foods, like Hobo Bread®, a sweet nut bread inspired by loaves baked in cans during the Great Depression.

Visit with farmers as they plow with steam and horses, thresh grains and amble through the apple orchards. Take in a slice of your own living heritage — our American foodways.

Your experience includes

  • Traditional Fall Cooking Demonstrations
  • Fall Farmers Market (Saturday 10am-3pm)
  • Expert Talks
  • Plowing with Steam and Horses
  • Threshing at Firestone Farm
