Welcome Back

Your Guide to a Safe and Inspiring Visit
This page was last updated on July 10, 2020.
Reactivate The Henry Ford

The Henry Ford is excited to welcome back its members, friends and fans after a temporary closure to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

We are executing a multiphase approach in our reopening to prioritize the safety of our guests and staff. This plan is in compliance with state, federal and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. For more information, view the THF Return-to-Work Guide for our full COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan.

In this first phase of reopening, Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation and Greenfield Village will only be open and operational Thursday through Sunday, with limited daily visitation. Updates will be provided as additional hours, venues and experiences resume.

To ensure a safe environment for our guests and our staff, we will limit and eliminate hands-on activities, and most interactions between guests and staff will have a presence of six feet or more. These steps are necessary to maintain a healthy environment for everyone as we carefully reshape our institution for the future.

We will monitor changing scenarios closely, and our hope is to ramp up as conditions allow. We appreciate your patience during this time, and please alert us regarding concerns during your visit.

Do I need to wear a face mask?

Yes. All members and guests age 2 and over are required to wear a face mask in all indoor spaces, as well as during the ticketing and admission process, and at any time social distancing cannot be maintained at all venues.

  • Guests, including children, are also required to wear masks in close-quartered areas (designated as “Mask On” areas) in order to participate. This includes Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, Greenfield Village buildings, and the Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes exhibition (opening July 16), among others.
  • If a guest is within 6 feet of a staff member or another guest/party, face masks are required within all venues – indoors and outdoors.
  • If social distancing can be maintained and a guest is at least 6 feet away from a staff member or another guest/party, guests may temporarily remove their masks in outdoor locations.
  • Children under 2 years old are not required to wear a mask within our venues.
  • While dining in our restaurants, please wear your mask until you are seated. Table layouts ensure social distancing is maintained.

The Henry Ford is committed to accessibility for all guests and remains in compliance with the ADA in the use of face masks. If you or a member of your household has a medical condition or disability that prevents you from wearing a face covering, reasonable accommodations will be made for you. Please email us at accessibility@thehenryford.org in advance of your visit to receive more information.

What if I forget my mask?
No worries! A limited supply of free paper face masks will be available at key entrances. Guests may also purchase a cloth mask in one of The Henry Ford’s retail shops.
Do I need to maintain social distancing guidelines?

Yes! All members and guests visiting any venue or experience at The Henry Ford must abide by social distancing guidelines, keeping at least 6 feet away from staff and other guests/parties.

Floor decals that determine spacing will be placed throughout our venues to assist guests in areas where crowding or lines are expected. We ask that all guests abide by these spacing markers.

Please note that guests do not need to social distance within their own parties.

What cleaning and sanitation efforts will be in place?
An increased number of cleaning staff will be on-site to ensure that all surfaces, restrooms and restaurants are consistently disinfected. In addition, hand sanitizer stations will be placed throughout each venue for guests to use.
Is The Henry Ford implementing staff safety procedures?
All staff members of The Henry Ford will be required to complete mandatory health screenings before arriving on-site for each shift. Staff who do not pass their health screening will not be permitted entry until they are declared fit to work by a licensed medical professional. For more information, view the THF Return-to-Work Guide for our full COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan.
What other safety precautions are encouraged from guests?

The Henry Ford is committed to creating as many touch-free experiences as possible, so the following actions are suggested from our guests:

  • In order to limit on-site staff interaction, as well as prioritize entry, all members and guests should reserve or purchase tickets prior to their visit online.
  • Payments made by credit or debit card are preferred; however, cash will still be accepted and handled with the utmost care.
  • We ask that all guests abide by the safety information conveyed on-site, whether through signage, floor decals or staff instruction.
Do members still get in for free?
